Curved Glass

Allowing designers to create more visually pleasing structures and apply glass to the building environment in a different aspect. Curved toughened glass is bent to a specific radius during the tempering process which is a complicated and complex process mastered by Carey Glass International. Investment in the best the glass machinery allows this complex engineering.

Our maximum size is 4300 x 2700 with the curve axis on the 4300 aspect, minimum thickness is 5mm up to 19mm and we can curve and temper HP Solar Neutral soft coated glass.

Detailed Description

Curved toughened glass is available for IG units using clear, tinted reflective, Low E, High Performance and spandrels. Curved glass is custom toughened by heat-treating glass through a horizontal toughening furnace with special cooling rollers which form the curve whilst the glass is in a semi molten condition, the quenching process is then introduced as the glass oscillates to allow even cooling.

Fabrication Options

Holes, notches hinge cutouts; polished & ground edges; cut-outs and sandblast design are all available. This is a particular feature of our wALLglass range, where the flush glass finish is spectacular.

Guidelines for hole diameter and positioning must be considered during the design phase, and fabrication processes must be completed prior to toughening/bending. Fabrication can be done with any thickness of glass intended for use in a curved application. With this capability, Carey Curved Tempered Glass is ideal for unique and elegant shower enclosures.

Glass Options

Curved Tempered glass is offered in a large variety of glass products, including clear, low iron, Low-E's, High Performance, Tints and reflective glass types to achieve desired aesthetics and to meet design criteria.

Minimum curve radius is as follows:

  • 6mm - 8mm substrate = 1200mm
  • 10mm - 12mm substrate = 1500mm
  • 15mm - 19mm substrate = 3000mm

Maximum size for

  • 6-12mm curved is 2700mm Girth x 4200mm Height
  • 15mm curved is 2200 x 3500
  • 19mm curved is 2000 x 3500

Primary Uses

Curved tempered glass can be used in internal partitions, balustrades, revolving doors and entrances and shower screens. In external applications our customers install it in IGU in structural glass assemblies, curtain walling, and in single form it is used in street furniture and signage applications.

As a room dividing partition and even as furniture , our customers continue to find new applications and we are always ready to advise.

Our curved tempered can be painted or screen printed to any design or theme and we can laminate curved tempered to offer additional strength and reassurance.

Benefits

In modern architecture, the use of shapes in the building envelope can convey a differing message to the people using or the intended use of the building, curved tempered glass is used when the designer / client has an aesthetic line which needs an uninterrupted finish. Curved glass eliminates the harsh angles and the two dimensional appearance and identifies a prominent feature of the structure.

Retailers prefer a curved tempered glass entrance area, it is more appealing to their customers as it smooth lines encourage us to look at the merchandise, and when used in partitions curved tempered soothes the efficiency of straight lines and can use translucence and shape to create new areas of privacy, whilst it maintains accessibility.

In domed roof applications, curved glass is essential as its shape lends itself to the application for dispelling rain and snow loading as well as breaking up the angle of the solar energy and transmitted heat and light through the glass used. High performing low e glass and solar neutral products are available from us.
