The glass façade of this landmark development incorporates CareyGlass Structurally Bolted wAllGlass System, using Low Iron glass to give exceptional clarity for both the façade and the cantilevered Fins, resulting in a completely flush clean line appearance.
CareyGlass supplied Solar Neutral High Performance solar control double glazing units throughout the curtain wall element of this development.
The +11,000 sq.m development consists of three stories of high-end retail over a basement retail unit, with office space at third floor level. The new curved development creates a continuation of Academy Street down to the historic quays, providing a vibrant focus as viewed from Patrick Street.
The scheme also integrates No. 16 Lavitts Quay into the overall development to create a modern expression along the north channel of the River Lee. Retaining an original façade at street level and incorporating it into the final product brings 21st century architectural glazing to Half Moon street whilst maintaining some of its original character.
On the 15th of August 2008 the garden of light and glass monument were unveiled to mark the 10th anniversary of the Omagh Bomb in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland when in 1998 Thirty One people tragically died as a result of the attack and approximately 220 people were injured.
Carey Glass are proud to have participated in design team headed by Artist 'Sean Hillen' and Landscape Architect 'Desmond Fitzgerald'. Carey Glass manufactured in house and installed the glass obelisk structure on the memorial site in Omagh.
The glass obelisk is made up of seven 'triple laminated' glass slabs measuring 4.7meters high x 1.2meters wide at base with 20mm air gaps between each slab and included end panels and capping, individually bolted to a structural base. All from optiwhite glass to give outstanding transparency. Fixed at base the strength required in the glass to cantilever 4.5 meters required bespoke base connection brackets and the use of “DuPont SentryGlas” interlayers to the triple laminated fins. With full in house processing the individual glass panels were cut, machined and toughened. The triple laminate assembly was carried out on our laminating assembly line and vacuumed in our glass laminating autoclave. The accuracy of manufacture and assembly was critical for the insertion of the elliptical shaped glass panels holding the 'Tyrone Crystal' Heart
"The actual site of the explosion is marked by a pillar, apparently of solid glass, about 4.5m high. Near the top, inside, appears a 3-dimensional 'heart' in a faceted cut-glass style. The suggested image is that of the 'heart' suspended high in a frozen beam of light."
